Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender (GLBT) Focus
At Strides In Psychotherapy, several of our psychologists have specialized training
and experience in working with the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender
communities, their families and allies. We work with GLBT individuals,
couples and families who are struggling with a host of different
issues. These might include coming out, dealing with homophobic families,
friends or work environments, relationship problems, suicidality,
transitioning, parenting issues, religious or spiritual concerns,
separation/divorce, illness or grief.
We embrace the vitality, creativity, adaptability and resilience that our GLBT
clients often bring to therapy. We honor their chosen and adoptive
families and their strong sense of community.
Due to cultural stressors, we are aware that members
of our GLBT community are at higher risk for such problems as adolescent
suicidality, bullying, depression, substance abuse and HIV, and we
consider these factors in our assessment and treatment.
Many GLBT clients come to us requesting help with
depression, anxiety, ADHD, job stress, behavioral problems, low self
esteem, and other issues that may not be directly related to their
sexual orientation or gender identity. We treat you in the same ways
that we assist heterosexual clients, while also considering any possible
impact that being GLBT might have on the situation at hand.
We also work with children, parents, friends and colleagues
of people identified as GLBT who are struggling with that in one
way or another, or who have lost someone in their lives who identified
as GLBT.
At Strides In Psychotherapy, we do our best to provide
you with a safe space to talk about anything that concerns you. We
strive to be understanding, educative and empathic, while also addressing
the issues at hand, helping you problem-solve and develop new skills,
and come to a resolution that feels helpful and comfortable to you.
